On August 18th, 2023, the Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI) has initiated an extension investigation of safeguard measures on imports of carpets and other textile floor coverings based on the application submitted by the Indonesian Textile Association (API) as the applicant, on August 15th, 2023, representing PT. Universal Carpet And Rugs, PT. Classic Prima Carpet Industries, and PT. Anugrah Esa Mulia.
KPPI’s Chair explained that KPPI found facts that there were still serious injury or threats of serious injury experienced by the applicant and that structural adjustments were not yet optimal. These were evident from several indicators of worsening performance of the domestic industry during the 2020-2022 period.
The main countries of origin for imports of carpets and other textile floor coverings are Vietnam (with an import share of 40.30%), followed by Turkey (29.48%), Malaysia (9.96%), Japan (7.23%), China (6.26%), Thailand (3.17%), and others (3.60%).
