Vietnam Files Dispute Against Indonesia over Safeguard Measure on Certain Steel Imports
05 June 2015

On 1 June 2015, Vietnam notified the WTO Secretariat that it has initiated a new dispute proceeding against Indonesia concerning the imposition of a safeguard measure on imports of flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel.

According to Vietnam, the investigation and safeguard measure imposed by Indonesia, as well as other aspects relating to notification and consultation were inconsistent with the requirement under Dispute Settlement Understanding (DSU), GATT and Safeguard Agreement.

Consultations give the parties to the dispute an opportunity to discuss the matter and to find a satisfactory solution without proceeding further with litigation. After 60 days, if consultations have failed to resolve the dispute, the complainant may request adjudication by a panel.
