The entry into force of the New Regulations on Import of Horticultural Products is postponed
19 June 2012

The Vice Minister of Agriculture and the Director General of Foreign Trade announced that the entry into force of Decree of the Minister of Trade No. 30/2012 concerning Imports of Horticulture is to be postponed. Initially, the Decree is to enter into force on 15 June 2012. However, it shall be postponed until 28 September 2012, citing that the infrastructure is not ready yet and that socialization is needed for importers.

The new regulation requires importers to provide infrastructures such as cold storage, warehouse, and transportation vehicles with refrigeration. Further, it also requires importers to appoint a distributor and fulfill the terms and conditions to obtain the license.

It remains unclear whether the restriction of port of entry that is schedule to enter into force tomorrow, 19 June 2012, would also be postponed. According to Decree of the Minister of Agriculture No. 15/2012, the port of entries shall be limited to the seaports of Belawan, Tanjung Perak, Soekarno-Hatta, and the airport of Soekarno-Hatta.
