Spain’s “Protectionist” law on Biofuels?
15 June 2012

Recently, after the seizure of Spaniard’s investment in Argentina, Spain issued a new biodiesel law.

The law came into force in April, and it is claimed by Argentina to be restricting biodiesel imports from major suppliers, including Argentina and Indonesia.

Argentina has planned to resolve the dispute with the EU through consultation in July. If they fail to do so, Argentina might request the WTO Dispute Settlement Body to set up a panel to adjudge this issue.

At the same time, Argentina’s import restriction is also being complained by the EU, and the dispute has been submitted to the WTO DSB last May 2012.

With this new potential dispute. the trade war between Argentina and the EU seem will not end soon.
