General Importer License’s Scope is re-Broadened
25 June 2012

After controversies and complaints raised by importers, the government has decided to revise the last Decree of the Minister of Trade No. 27/2012 (“Decree No. 27/2012”) on Importer Registration Number.

Under Decree No. 27/2012, a general importer may only import one group of a certain type of goods.  However, this will be revised, and the revision is close to finalization. Under the revised version, for example, a sole agent of a certain electronic brand may still import five sections of goods. Similarly, an automotive sole agent and pharmacy distributor may be allowed to continue importing 12 – 15 sections of goods. This will be allowed as long as there is a special relationship with the principal overseas. The proof of such a special relationship will need to be declared by the principal overseas and further legalized by the trade attaché or Indonesian embassy or consular overseas.
